NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)– New Orleans police are investigating a traffic fatality that claimed the life of a 37-year-old woman. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family members. The incident took place on North Claiborne Avenue and Kerlerec Street.
Authorities say on Saturday, at approximately 5 a.m., 29-year-old Quintella Williams was driving a black 2007 Jeep Compass traveling westbound on North Claiborne Avenue at Kerlerec Street when she hit a pedestrian who for reasons unknown was in the right lane on the street. The Jeep continued to travel westbound down North Claiborne Avenue to Orleans Avenue with the victim on top of her vehicle, by the windshield area.
Williams then entered the Interstate 10 west on-ramp at the Orleans Avenue before coming to a stop on top the Interstate in the far right lane.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.
Williams was not injured in the incident and tested above the legal alcohol limit. She was booked with hit and run and vehicular homicide.
